It’s our last night in Italy tonight! What a wonderful holiday it’s been. We’ve been so amazingly lucky / blessed in all sorts of ways from the weather (which has been uniformly glorious wherever we were, despite what was happening in the rest of the country), to discovering absolutely amazing places to eat, and to finding out that the parking garage at our hotel where we parked our rental car after escaping the manic Rome driving was exactly the same parking lot that we had (quite by chance) arranged to drop the car off at!
We have also had a huge amount of fun. In Venice, we had an acqua alta (or mini flood) which happens a few times a year where half or more of the city gets flooded. We took off our shoes, rolled up our trousers and went paddling in St Marks square! I think the locals thought we were mad, but the whole scene was crazy.
Lake Como was too beautiful for words. I really felt like we were staying inside one of those idyllic scenes you see on chocolate boxes. We’re off to St Peters tomorrow in Rome and then flying back tomorrow evening.
